If you didn't catch 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple or Primate at the movies earlier this year, well, you're in luck. Both films will hit streaming platforms later this month.
The creature feature Primate will begin streaming on Paramount + in the United States and Canada on Wednesday, March 25. Meanwhile, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will hit Netflix in the U.S. on Tuesday, March 31.
Directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Alex Garland, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple picks up where last year's 28 Years Later left off. The movie stars Alfie Williams as the young Spike. He falls in with a sadistic cult named the Jimmies, led by Jack O'Connell's malicious Saint Jimmy Crystal. Between The Bone Temple and Sinners, O'Connell is proving to be one of horror's most terrifying contemporary villains.
The movie also stars Ralph Fiennes in an unforgettable performance as Dr. Kelson. The scene in which he pretends he's the devil and rocks out to Iron Maiden is enough to make The Bone Temple worth a watch. It's one of the most mesmerizing sequences in any horror film thus far this year. The sequel further explores Dr. Kelson's relationship with an alpha zombie/infected he dubs Samson (Chi Lewis-Perry), opening up the door to a potential cure, though it's unclear what will be done with that particular narrative thread. The film also introduces a new character, Jimmy Ink (Erin Kellyman), who's growing friendship with Spike is another highlight and interesting narrative thread.
Meanwhile, the sequel sees the return of a beloved character, though that won't be spoiled here. Despite positive reviews, The Bone Temple didn't do too well at the box office, maybe because of its January release date. Still, the final movie in the trilogy has already been greenlit by Sony, though it's unclear when it will be released and whether or not Danny Boyle will return to direct it. It's likely Garland will again pen the screenplay.
Primate, meanwhile, is a totally different movie than The Bone Temple. It's an unapologetic, brutal creature feature with plenty of gore. It's about a killer chimp named Ben who contracts rabies and goes on a killing spree. Directed by Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night), the movie stars Johnny Sequoyah as Lucy, a college student who invites a group of her friends to her isolated Hawaiian home for spring break. Well, Ben soon makes quick work of Lucy's pals in vicious fashion. The film also stars Troy Kotsur as Adam, the father, and Gia Hunter as Erin, Lucy's younger sister. The film contains some impressive special effects.
