My name is Carla Davis, and I am very proud to be one of the creators of The Horror Lounge. I have loved horror since I was a kid who enjoyed “scary movies” and series such as Night Gallery. My Dad worked at a movie theatre, so my sister and I saw a lot of movies that we probably shouldn’t have at such a young age, and our Uncle Ronnie took us to see entertainment such as The Driller Killer, The Gruesome Twosome, Black Christmas, Halloween…you get the idea.
I was so excited about the genre that I would research my favorite horror movies to find out as much behind the scenes info and trivia as I possibly could. I would flip through Fangoria magazine in book stores, too embarrassed to actually buy a copy because of the lurid, gory cover photos. Today, I have a subscription to Fangoria.
My first foray into writing for a horror fan site began in 2018, when a friend pointed me in the direction of a site called 1428 Elm. I began as a contributor, who knew absolutely nothing about Word Press, but I picked it up rather quickly, and was happy to write as many articles as I possibly could.
Four years later, I took on the role of Site Expert, meaning I basically was the editor. I still wrote my own articles, but I also trained and coached the contributors, and edited and published their articles. I really enjoyed it, despite the fact that it was a lot of work for a little bit of money.

Money aside, the perks were awesome. I got screeners for films that hadn’t been seen by the general public yet, was able to interview horror icons such as Joe Hill, Lance Henrikson, Stephen Cognetti, Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl, received amazing press mailers from Shudder, Spirit Halloween, Tubi, and Peacock, and I was able to attend Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando with a press pass for three years in a row. Best of all, I was able to share my mostly useless knowledge of horror with like-minded people.
All of that came to an end in October of this year, when I was informed that 1428 Elm was going to be shut down. Our last day of new content was October 31, which is fitting, I guess. I was really sad about this, but my mind went into overdrive, and I started thinking that maybe – just maybe – I could start my own horror fan site. I've always been a problem solver, and I am tenacious when I want something!
I messaged my longest-term contributor Brian, and we started talking about partnering up for the site. Thankfully, he was just as excited at the prospect as I was, and about six weeks later, here we are!
We convinced a few of the other contributors to join us as writers, and you will be learning more about them (and Brian) in the days to come. It’s just so exciting to see our little dream come to fruition!
I live in the Orlando, Florida area with my husband Rob and our dog Papa (who we foster-failed). I work full time as Project Coordinator for an Electrical Contractor, and I work seasonally as part of the Orlando Fringe Theater Festival operating staff, and have done so for the past 20 years. In my free time, I perform at a local community theatre (where a short horror play I wrote was produced in October).
I hope everyone reading this piece will join us at The Horror Lounge for the ride. Keep checking in daily to see all of the news, reviews and general info we want to share with horror fans! And please, use the contact section to let us know what you think.
