Shudder's November Season of Screams has horror to feast on

Shudder has released their Season of Screams schedule for November, and boy is it
stacked! In addition to two new original films, we are getting two exclusives (including
Eli Roth’s Ice Cream Man), and a bunch of holiday horror additions. Who doesn’t
love a good Christmas horror movie, am I right?
Shudder’s Season of Screams is an annual campaign centering around Halloween, but
it actually runs for three months: October, November, and December. During the
Season of Screams, there are a more than usual number of horror additions, and many
are holiday-themed.
Note: I have marked the films I have seen and recommend with an **.
Let’s take a look at what we can watch on Shudder in November:
November 1:
New Group (Shudder Original) – In this Japanese horror/comedy, high schooler Ai’s life
changes when her fellow students become cult followers and start spontaneously
forming human pyramids.
Christmas Evil – This is one of my personal favorite holiday horror movies! Harry
suffered genuine trauma as a child due to the way he discovered the truth about Santa.
Now an adult, he works in a toy factory, where bullying pushes him over the edge, and
he starts to commit murder while wearing a Santa suit.

Better Watch Out **– Babysitter horror isn’t confined to Halloween, as 17-year-old
Ashley learns while sitting for 12-year-old Luke during the holiday season. An intruder
breaks into the house, and Ashley jumps into action to protect herself and Luke.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark – Stella and her pals break into a home reputed to be haunted. They discover a book of scary stories in a secret room, and the stories begin to take on a life of their own.
You’re Next **– A bickering family gets together to celebrate their parents’ anniversary, but they are victims of a violent home invasion. Luckily, son Crispian’s girlfriend Erin is there, and she has a particular set of skills.
Theatre of Horrors – “An experimental play becomes a study in horror when four eager actors discover their brilliant, avant garde director is a homicidal madman.”
Sweeney Todd – The demon barber’s story is told by virtue of a silent film in this 1928 version.
The Lighthouse Keepers (1929) – Another silent film, this one deals with a father and son who work together at a lighthouse.
Spawn – When an elite Marine Corps member named Al Simmons begins to question the morality of the work he is being asked to do, his superior secretly hires an assassin to kill him. When he arrives in hell, Simmons makes a deal he thinks will allow him to return to his wife.
The Innkeepers **– Employees Claire and Luke are tasked with working at the Yankee Pedlar Inn during its final week of operations. Knowing that the Inn is supposed to be haunted, they decide to conduct their own investigation, and get more than they bargained for.
The House of the Devil **– Set in 1983, The House of the Devil introduces us to a college student named Samantha. Desperate for money, she accepts a very strange babysitting job.
A Christmas Horror Story **– In this Christmas horror anthology, four interwoven tales are presented by William Shatner as a radio show host.
The Green Inferno – In Eli Roth’s homage to Cannibal Holocaust, a group of social activists are stranded in the jungle when their plan crashes. And worse still, they are discovered by a group of natives who practice cannibalism.
Don’t Open Til Christmas – In this 1984 British slasher, a killer is on the loose, and his targets are men dressed in Santa suits.
November 9:
Eerie Tales - A German silent film, Eerie Tales is an anthology film that tells 5 different tales based on short stories by Anselm Heine, Robert Liebmann, Edgar Allan Poe, and Robert Louis Stevenson, and Oswald.
The Living Dead – Another silent movie, this one is about a mad scientist who murders his wife and walls her up in their home before taking off. A determined report is hot on his heels.
The Wizard of Gore – Herschell Gordon Lewis directed this splatter film about a couple who set out to investigate a magician who performs magic tricks that appear as mutilations. Afterwords, his volunteers seem fine, but they later die in the same manner as the magician’s stage tricks.
November 10:
The Company of Wolves – “A teenage girl in a country manor falls asleep while reading a magazine and has a disturbing dream involving wolves prowling the woods below her bedroom window.
November 13:
Tinsman Road (Shudder Exclusive) – Young Robbie searches the terrifying backwoods of New Jersey.
November 20:
Ice Cream Man (Shudder Exclusive) – In Eli Roth’s newest film, a mysterious man shows up delivering sweet treats in an ice cream truck. Something – maybe the ice cream? - makes the children become murderous.
November 16:
The Becomers – After they flee their disintegrating planet seperately, two alien lovers end up in Chicago. As they try to find one another, each must switch between human bodies in order to survive.
The A-Frame – “A quantum physicist develops a machine that creates a tunnel to a subatomic universe in his quest to prove the machine’s efficacy, he inadvertently discovers a radical treatment for cancer.”
Bury Your Dead – In this Portuguese post-apocalyptic film, Edgar is a roadkill collector who really just wants a better life with his girlfriend Nete. When Nete becomes part of a mysterious cult, Edgar and priest Tomas travel to find her.
Hush ** – Mike Flanagan directed this story of a deaf-mute writer (Kate Siegel, who also co-wrote the film) alone in her isolated home. When a masked intruder shows up, she has to outwit him in order to survive.

November 26 :
Black Christmas (1974)** – In the film said to have inspired John Carpenter’s Halloween, a group of sorority sisters are stalked by a killer during the holiday.
Black Christmas (2006)** – In this reboot, we again see the sorority girls being stalked by the killer…but this time, we learn about Billy’s past.
November 27:
The Holy Boy (Shudder Original) – “Sergio, a teacher tormented by his past, is transferred to Remis, a secluded village known as the happiest town in Italy. But he soon discovers that behind the town’s joyful façade lies a disturbing secret: Each week, the villagers gather to hug Matteo, an introverted 15-year-old whose embrace can free one of all pain and sorrow.”
