3 new Netflix & Chills titles coming in October (and one that just dropped)
A few years back, Netflix & Chills was an annual Halloween event; now it’s a category that is always available on the streaming platform. But Netflix still increases their horror library in time for spooky season, and we have details for some new films and a series coming up in October.
Let’s start with one that actually dropped on September 25. I’m counting it for this article because for me, spooky season has already begun, and also because it’s one that true crime followers should appreciate. And by the way, it's not the only Halloween-worthy series that dropped a little early - Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story began streaming on September 17.
Unabomber (September 25) – This thriller is based on the true story of Theodore John Kaczynski, the notorious “Unabomber” whose mail bombs killed three people, and injured another 23. The film looks at Kaczynski’s life from the time he was a 16-year-old prodigy with a genius IQ. Jacob Tremblay (Before I Wake) portrays the young Kaczynski, and Russell Crow (The Pope’s Exorcist) appears as a Professor who performs some controversial psychological experiments on him.

Below (October 8) – This horror series stars Josh Hartnett (Trap) as Calvin, a fisherman in Newfoundland still grieving the mysterious death of his father decades later. When a strange sea creature starts terrorizing his small town, Calvin is determined to keep his son Wade (Charlie Heaton of Stranger Things) safe, and works with a marine researcher to find and stop the creature. Below is a six-episode series.
Haunted Hotel (October 9) – Season two of the adult cartoon series continues to follow the adventures of Katherine Freeling and her kids Ben and Esther as they operate the Undervale Hotel in New York. The place is haunted by its previous residents, including the ghost of Katherine’s brother, and a demon inhabiting the body of a little boy. Will Forte, Eliza Coupe, Natalie Palamides, Jimmi Simpson, and Skyler Gisondo lend their voices to the characters.
The Trap (October 13) – The Trap is a German thriller series telling the story of a successful author named Lisa, who has lived in self-imposed solitude since witnessing the murder of her sister Anna. When she sees who she believes to be the killer on television, she makes the decision to use herself as bait to catch him. If you watched the Netflix series Dear Child, this one might interest you, since it was run by the same creators, Isabel Kleefeld, Tom Spiess, and Friedereich Oetker.
