A six hour supercut of IT 1 and 2 could be closer than we think.

After years of teases and speculation, it looks like the fabled IT supercut might be floating closer to seeing the light of day.
Legendary horror author Stephen King has made a number of smash hit horror novels, many of which have been adapted into film, with the caveat that some things may be cut for time or subject matter. This has always been the case with King's most intense and demanding novel IT from 1986, which clocks in at over 1,100 pages of intense emotional and physical horror. With all that ground to cover, it's no surprise Tommy Lee Wallace's iconic 1990 miniseries of the same name wasn't able to properly adapt the source material.
Fast forward a bit to the news in 2016 about IT getting a remake, or rather a re-adaptation. Unchained from the constraints of a TV budget and censorship, fans of the novel expected the gap of accuracy between the book and screen adaptation to shrink, and it did. The 2017 film and its follow up in 2019 and their runtimes of 135 minutes and 165 minutes respectively allowed director Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti to flesh out the rich world of IT and follow the novel much more closely.
After the release of IT: Chapter two in 2019, rumors and ideas began to spread for a possible supercut of the two films, stitching them together and allowing for a seamless telling of the story, much like the 1990 miniseries did upon its DVD release. This began as a rumor amongst the fans of the new films, and as someone who was (and still is) deep in the fandom of IT (the novel and its adaptations), I've been keeping my ear to the ground on the fabled "IT supercut" for years now. However, after all these years we seem to have finally gotten a confirmation of its existence and upcoming release.

According to a Spanish-language interview on a press tour for IT: Welcome to Derry (posted by user @Pennywisefan111 on X) Andy Muschietti had this to say:
"It's going to come, we'll see how this series goes".
Producer Barbara Muschietti added "You know who asked me about it a month ago? (Stephen) King. He said, "how is the super cut?"
Andy replied with "Very good because it's truly a dream to put the two films into a single narrative piece. It will possibly have a different structure and extra scenes. I still have to film some of them, because they are the interstitial fabric between the pieces of the story… I think there's interest. I think the studio is interested in funding it. We'll see."
There's a lot to unpack there, to start… new scenes? That still aren't filmed? As someone who adores the 2017 movie and has been in the Muschietti corner since 2013s Mama, this is big! Those who have done their homework on the IT movies know that there's one scene in particular that was shot but never made the cut in either films, which had Bill Skarsgard tormenting puritan era settlers of Derry, taking the form of the devil and asking a woman to give him her infant. A dark scene that feels ripped straight from the novel and would fit into this world of IT like a glove, especially after all the bloodshed and history we got in Welcome to Derry.
What do you think of this news? Do you think we'll ever get the coveted six-hour supercut of Muschietti's IT saga? And if we do, will you be checking it out? With recent news that Welcome to Derry season 2 has been given the greenlight from HBO, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than to release the supercut, after they film more scenes for it of course.
