The full program for the 2026 Boston Underground Film Festival – known as BUFF – has been released. Per the press release: “From horror, fantasy, sci-fi and idiosyncratic indies of all stripes, BUFF brings fans, filmmakers and our vibrant New England community together for a blissful five-day cinematic celebration.”
This year, BUFF will be presenting Sugar Rot and The Cramps: A Period Piece, both of which are the first feature films from Becca Kozak and Brooke Sellars. Also on the schedule are The Hedonist (directed by Nick Funess), Camp (Avalon Fast), Buffet Infinity (Simon Glassman), and The Serpent’s Skin (Alice Maio Mackay). And the documentary Boorman and the Devil, which is about the very unappreciated sequel to The Exorcist will also be a part of BUFF, with screenings of Exorcist II: The Heretic being presented as support. So you can decide for yourself if it’s as bad as people claim.
Films previously announced include Normal, Obsession, Saccharine, and a 40th anniversary screening of cult favorite The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. Actor Bill Moseley, who starred in TTCM2 will make an appearance, and will also be present for a special late night screening of another of his films, Rob Zombie’s The Devil’s Rejects.
BUFF will be presented March 18 through 22
For BUFF’s shorts blocks, attendees can see Animation Disorientation, Die Laughing, The Dunwich Horrors, New England Esoterica, I Hate it Here, and Death, Love, and Road Trips.
The closing night event will include master stunt coordinator and director Kenji Tanigaki’s action/thriller The Furious, which features martial arts stars such as Yayan Ruhian, Joe Taslim, Miao Xie, Joey Iwanaga, Brian Le, JeeJa Yanin, and more. In the film, a tradesman named Wang Wi is desperate to find his abducted daughter Rainy, and has to navigate a violent underworld with only the help of a journalist.
BUFF’s former Articistic Director Kevin Monahan and former Director of Programming Nicole McControversy have both left the organization after nearly 20 years. This will be a change for the festival, but former technical directors Adam Van Voorhis and Phil Healy are the new co-festival directors, who intend to carry on BUFF’s mission. They stated: “It is our great honor and uttermost joy to ensure that the underground spirit of BUFF will continue to give the darkest visions of filmmakers, from all aspects of life and absurdity, a place for their voices to be heard and celebrated by the Boston Underground faithful.”
Tickets for screenings will be available online March 5, and you can find more information on Boston Underground’s website.
