ID (Investigation Discovery) has announced that a new season of People Magazine Investigates will begin in January. The popular true crime series began in 2016, and continues to dive into compelling cases through interviews and input from the people most closely involved.
The new season will include 12 episodes, looking into a supposed house fire death that turned out to be murder, the death of a celebrity hairstylist, a high school romance that didn’t end well, and much more.
The premiere episode, titled Vanished in the Heartland involves 52-year-old Dee Warner, a mom who disappeared from her home in Michigan. Her body was found four months later, and police ended up charging her husband Dale with her murder.
People Magazine Investigates premieres on Monday, January 12 at 9:00 pm ET.
New episodes of the series will air weekly on Mondays, and all will be available to stream on HBO Max the following day. Here’s an episode guide so you can plan ahead to get your true crime fix:
Death in Hell’s Kitchen (Jan. 19) – During Pride Month in 2022, social worker Julio Ramirez joined a friend for a night out in the Hell’s Kitchen area of New York City. He was seen on security camera footage leaving a bar at 3:00 in the morning in the company of three men, and the four got into a taxi. At 4:00 a.m., he was alone in the taxi when his driver flagged down a police officer to report an unresponsive man in his back seat. Julio’s wallet was missing, and in the days following his death, his bank account was systematically drained.
A month later, John Umberger suffered a very similar fate, and the NYPD began investigating their deaths, as well as a string of near-fatal burglaries.
Sex House Homicide (Jan. 16) – When police in Ocala, Florida (interestingly, the same location where the events in Netflix true crime documentary The Perfect Neighbor took place) responded to a wellness check request, they found a man’s dead body in an unexpected place. The house appeared to be a sexual pleasure palace, and police were left to figure out if there was a motive for the murder.
Playing With Fire (Feb. 2) – “In 2001, someone murders a father, sets his Florida home ablaze, and his sons disappear. As prayers rise for their safe return, a so-called family friend steps forward, shifting the case. Now, an exclusive interview finally uncovers the chilling truth.”
The Serial Killer Who Only Killed Once (Feb. 16) – Robin Larence was murdered in her Springfield, Virginia home in November of 1994, leaving her two-year-old daughter Nicole alone for the two days it took for someone to discover her body. Her husband was initially suspected of killing her, but 30 years later, someone called police to confess.
Looking for Angela (Feb. 23) – In 2019, Angela Green and her daughter Ellie had an argument that led to Angela kicking Ellie out of the house. Ellie expected to hear from her mother the next day, but did not. Four days later, her father told her that Angela had been taken to a mental health facility, and he requested that she tell nobody – including family members.
About a month after the argument, Ellie’s father Geoff told her that Angela had died after suffering a stroke. But it soon became clear that Geoff was gaslighting his daughter, and when she did her own investigation, she could find no record of either Angela’s hospitalization or her death, so she notified law enforcement. What followed was a frustrating puzzle.
The Girl on the Bike (March 2) – In August of 1972, 20-year-old Judy Loomis headed out on her bike to visit a horse stable, and was found dead only hours later, having been sexually assaulted and shot in the head. Police were baffled, and the case was unsolved until 48 years later.
The Final Cut (March 9) – This episode deals with the brutal murder of celeb hairstylist Fabio Sementilli. Police suspected Sementilli was a victim of the “knock knock burglars”, but they had never killed any of their victims, and Fabio had been stabbed seven times. Everything started to come to light at the wake, when Fabio’s sister noticed a man with a bandage on his hand. She took a photo and alerted the police who jumped into action, uncovering a jaw-dropping story.
Love, Lies, and Lust (March 23) – Mike and Laurie Shaver lived in their home in Clermont, Florida in 2015. When Mike’s friend Frank attended an event with the two, he noticed some friction, but didn’t think much of it until Mike did not show up for work the following week. Frank received a text three days later, in which Mike said he was quitting to work on his marriage. But, Mike had in fact disappeared.
Over the next two and a half years, people would receive texts from him, but the real story was stranger than they could imagine.
Deadly Ride (March 30) – “In 2022, Austin police discover the body of 25-year-old up-and-coming cyclist Mo Wilson. Someone shot Mo execution style while she was visiting a friend for the weekend. Homicide detectives discover a story of jealousy, betrayal, and total obsession.”
The Truth is in the Dirt (April 6) – When single mom Jennifer Brown’s disappeared, her family and friends conducted searches and handed out fliers. Jennifer’s body was discovered two weeks later wrapped in plastic, and police almost immediately began to hone in on her business partner Blair Watts.
Where is Judith? (April 13) – “A home intruder abducts a 60-year-old woman in the night. Local sheriffs search relentlessly until they discover another horrifying attack just ten miles away that fits the same profile. Is there a serial predator haunting Florida's Gulf Coast?”
