As fans eagerly await the February 27 release of Scream 7, they can get a small taste of what’s to come by watching the new video for Ice Nine Kills’ Twisting the Knife. The song will be featured in Scream 7, and it also features cast member McKenna Grace.
Grace is known for her work in the Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House (in which she played young Theo), The Handmaid’s Tale (Esther Keys), and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (Lisa). But as it turns out, she’s a really good singer as well!
The video (which you can see at the end of this article) features plenty shots of Scream’s iconic Ghost Face Killer, as well as an appearance by David Arquette, who played Dewey in all but one of the Scream films.
Ice Nine Kills’ unique musical style is described as “horror-themed metalcore”, but they were originally more of a ska band, then called Ice Nine. Their horror aesthetic makes them a good choice for the Scream universe, and they did something pretty awesome for the 40th anniversary of Friday the 13th back in 2020. That’s when they released a parody knock-off of Fountains of Wayne’s song Stacy’s Mom – only they called it Jason’s Mom.
Ice Nine Kills’ Spencer Charnas said Twisting the Knife is a tribute to both the Scream franchise and Wes Craven. He stated that “Scream is baked into the DNA of who I am and of Ice Nine Kills – my love of horror, comedy, and the collision between the two.”

Charnas said he was “obsessed” with Friday the 13th and Halloween, but Scream was special because it was the first one he actually saw in a theatre. Over time, Ice Nine Kills has worked with Scream alumni such as Neve Campbell, Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich, Rose McGowan, and Jamie Kennedy in different ways.
Enter McKenna Grace, who happens to be a fan of Ice Nine Kills. That fact, combined with her role in Scream 7, seemed to make her a perfect fit for a collaboration. Charnas says Grace recorded her vocals in his home studio, and it just so happens that said studio contains a Scream knife prop which was actually made for the first film.
McKenna Grace proclaimed that working with Ice Nine Kills on Twisting the Knife was “an amazing opportunity.” She was inspired by the vocal style of Amy Lee (of the rock band Evanescence).
As an add-on to the video’s debut, Ice Nine Kills is releasing a limited edition merchandise drop called Nightmare on the Knife.
