Severin Films' 2026 Super Shock Pop-Up Festival in Los Angeles will celebrate company's 20th anniversary
For physical media collectors, especially those who gravitate towards strange and unusual movies, Severin Films is an important boutique label. Since 2006, the company has restored films and released them on DVD, Blu-ray and more recently, 4K UHD.
While the company has released some well-known horror features, including a two-disc 4K UHD version of The Autopsy of Jane Doe and a 2-disc 4K UHD edition of the Maniac remake, starring Elijah Wood, the company has also worked diligently over the last two decades to preserve and make available lesser-known features that could have been totally lost if not for the company's commitment to film preservation and restoration.
For instance, along with the films mentioned above, the company recently released versions of Shelia and Brainstem on Blu-ray and a limited 4K UHD version of Metamorphosis. These aren't exactly titles that would have been available at the local Blockbuster during the movie rental heyday, but preserving such films is part of the company's mission.
According to the company's website, the indie studio is "dedicated to rescuing, restoring, and releasing the works of Oscar nominees and cult icons for Blu-ray, 4K UHD, and digital platforms." The Los Angeles-based company features a library of over 500 films and television projects. Additionally, the company has produced feature films that include Plague Town and The Theatre Bizarre, as well as award-winning documentaries such as Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau and Woodlands Dark & Days Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror.
In celebration of their 20th anniversary, the Severin Films' fan-centric Super Shock Pop-Up Festival will return on August 22 for an all-day bacchanal, featuring a Mystery Quartet of new title screenings and special surprise guests representing the company's 20-year history. Severin co-founder/CEO David Gregory stated in a press release that the festivities will be an "unprecedented event that honors two decades of what Severin Films does best: celebrating fans, film, and good yet not-entirely-clean fun."
The festival will take place at Brain Dead Studios in Los Angeles, and it will be held in association with Cinematic Void and Rendezvous. The event will also include sneak previews of upcoming trailers and promos, swag, DJ sets between films, merch, and more.
The doors open at noon on August 22, and the festivities will begin at 12:30 pm. Tickets are now available through Brain Dead Studios' website.
