For those who enjoy all of the morbid details behind true crime cases, Netflix is a regular stop, thanks to their great documentaries and docuseries. But now, Netflix has upped the ante by putting true crime video podcasts on their streaming platform.
Buckle up, true crime followers, because these are podcasts you are probably already familiar with. Let’s take a look at six podcasts that began streaming this month, along with one that is hitting Netflix in February.
48 Hours: Post Mortem – 48 Hours has been running on television since 1988, so that’s a pretty solid record. Originally, the series focused on a 48 hour period of time, during which a crime case was investigated. With the popularity of the long-running series, it only makes sense to produce a podcast.
During the podcast, reporters and producers for 48 Hours will dish about the cases they cover, complete with the all of the crazy true crime twists we all know and love. 48 Hours: Post Mortem will begin streaming on Netflix February 1.
Buried Bones – In this true crime podcast, the focus is on cases that happened in the past. And by the past, I mean the 1800s, the early 1900s…you get the picture. Journalist Kate Winkler Dawson is joined by retired cold case investigator Paul Holes, who has worked on such cases as the Golden State Killer.
Together, Dawson and Holes break down the old cases, giving listeners all of the details and info they have available.
Killer Stories – Harvey Guillen (What We Do in the Shadows) hosts, exploring crimes that seized the general public’s attention, from jaw-dropping heists and devastating cons to serial murders and deadly rivalries.” Guillen examines one story per episode.
Next come two iconic true crime podcasts
Last Podcast on the Left – This podcast began in 2011, and it’s basically just three friends talking about the macabre topics they love. Unlike the other podcasts on this list, it doesn’t stick with strictly true crime – previous topics have included serial killers, demonology, cults, horror movies, and Creepypasta.

My Favorite Murder – MFM is one of my personal favorite podcasts, which takes a slightly comedic take on true crime. Hosts Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark originally met at a Halloween party, where they started chatting about true crime, and the rest is history. The stories they have covered include the JonBenet Ramsey, The Golden State Killer, and The Black Dahlia. Each episode ends with the hosts’ catchphrase – “Stay sexy, and don’t get murdered!”
Murder with My Husband – Garrett and Payton Moreland host this one, during which Payton (who loves true crime) and Garrett (who does not) break down one story per episode. I just watched the episode titled “The Fake Uber Homicide – The Murder of Samantha Josephson”, and I enjoyed it.
Small Town Murder – “Two comedians look at a small town, what makes it tick, and tell a story of a murder that happened there. With in-depth research, horrible tragedy, and the hosts’ comedic spin on the whole thing.”
