Netflix has three new original films/series coming up in April that should appeal to fans of horror and thrillers. Let’s face it, Netflix is usually one of the first stop genre fans make when they are looking for quality originals – think The Haunting of Hill House, Under Paris, and so on.
The Horror Lounge is here to recommend three very different types of horror and thrillers, so let’s just jump right in.
Thrash is written and directed by Tommy Wirkola, who was also responsible for the iconic horror-comedy Dead Snow (and the upcoming Over Your Dead Body) The film has changed titles a couple of times since it was first announced by Sony, and its planned theatrical release was cancelled…but, everyone loves a good shark flick during the warmer months, right?
In Thrash: “Amidst a catastrophic hurricane, a coastal town battles nature’s wrath and an onslaught of sharks. Braving torrential rain, debris, and darkness, they unite to survive the deadly predators and make it through the storm.” You had me at “onslaught of sharks”!
Thrash stars Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton), and Dijmon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Part II). It was shot on location in Australia, and we all know that Australia is partly famous for the amount of sharks that are present. It’s rated R for “bloody violent content, grisly images, and language.
Thrash will premiere on Netflix April 10.

Apex is a thriller about Sasha, a grieving woman who decides to visit the deadly Australian Outback as a way to deal with her grief. As if that part of the world weren’t dangerous enough, Sasha finds herself facing Ben, a deadly psychopath who only sees her as something to be hunted.
In the action-packed trailer, it’s evident that viewers are going to be treated to intense scenes of survival, as Sasha and Ben deal with fast-moving rapids and high cliffs. Charlize Theron portrays Sasha (and was a producer on the film), and Taron Egerton is Ben.
Apex premieres on Netflix April 24.

South Korean horror is becoming a thing on Netflix
The South Korean zombie series All of Us Are Dead was a hit for Netflix when it released in 2022, and a second season is reportedly on its way. But until season two hits, we can check out another series from South Korea, If Wishes Could Kill.
In this young adult horror series, a group of teens discovers an app called Girigo, which is said to make wishes come true when you record your wish and send them through the app. But, as horror fans know, you always have to pay a price for something that sounds too good to be true, and that turns out to be the case.
If Wishes Could Kill premieres April 24 on Netflix.
