Breaking Glass Pictures announces stoner horror-comedy Smokee

Move over, Cocaine Bear. Make room for the weed demon bear Smokee.

Breaking Glass Pictures recently announed Smokee, a new horror-comedy from writer/director Whit Whitman. The film is currently available on Fawesome, but Breaking Glass Pictures plans to seek additional streaming outlets and digital platforms to bring the movie to a wider audience.

Here's the film's synopsis: at a remote marriage-counseling retreat, guests arrive expecting relationship therapy and relaxation. However, cannabis-fueled rituals and old grudges summon Smokee, a knife-wielding demon bear. The weekend getaway suddenly turns into a fight for survival.

According to a press release, the movie combines stoner comedy, with "supernatural horror and creature-feature mayhem," offering an unconventional take on a therapy weekend. "Smokee is the kind of movie I love making: weird, funny, handmade, and completely committed to its own personality. We made it with limited resources but al ot of imagination," Whitman said in a press statement, adding, "I chose Breaking Glass because they understand independent filmmakers and offbeat genre movies. they saw what made Smokee different and felt like the right team to help finds its audience."

The movie is recommended for fans of Evil Dead II, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, and Pineapple Express. Rich Wolff, CEO of Breaking Glass Pictures said that Smokee is the kind of "unique independent genre film" that the company loves and added that it's, "funny, bloody, and completely uncreditable."

Smokee features quite a large cast. The horror-comedy stars Lynn Lowry, Alexis "Lexi" Andrews, Timothy Pogue, Eiley Ringo, Billy Crank, Anne-Marie Olsen, Juan Szilagyi, Joshua M. Hancock, Robert Rose, Jessica Claire Crosby, Joshua Michael Collins, Brian Patrick Thomas, Don Langley, Amanda Rose Mattingly, Jason Donahue, Rachel Atterholt, Casey Miracle, Brandon Murphy, Jonathan Licata, Dakota Jones, Destiny Elexis, Vanessa Jarrard, and Kathrine Horgan.

The film is a Little Monsters Entertainment production. Wolff, Susan Helfrich, and Whitman serve as producers.

Check out the trailer below for Smokee, which looks as absurd as you can imagine. It introduces the "weed demon," in other words, Smokee, who "stalks anyone who is high." It also has the tagline, "Get High. Get Killed," and previews some of the demon bear's kills.

For now, Smokee is only available on Fawesome as Breaking Glass Pictures works to make the film available on additional digital platforms.
