If you are highly interested in Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Prime series adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie, more info has been released. First look images are available now, and EW had a conversation with Flanagan about what his vision of the story of Carrie White will include.
The cast for Carrie includes Summer H. Howell (Curse of Chucky, Night of the Reaper) in the title role, Samantha Sloyan (Midnight Mass) as her mother Margaret, school bully Chris Hargensen is played by Alisa Thornton (School Spirits), Sue Snell is portrayed by Siena Agudong (Resident Evil series), Joel Oulette (Splinter Cell: Deathwatch) is Tommy Ross, and bad boy Billy is played by Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice). Matthew Lilard (Scream) puts in an appearance as Principal Grayle.
In his interview with EW, filmmaker Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, Dr. Sleep) broke down some of the iconic moments he chose to keep, and a few that he decided to change up.

Carrie’s family dynamic is dysfunctional, without a doubt. Carrie has been hidden away at home by her religious zealot mother Margaret, and is forced to enter the public school system after the sudden death of her father. Whatever happened to him brought Carrie to the attention of the state for the first time.

It’s easy to see how a naïve, trusting teenage girl thrust out in public for the first time could quickly become a target for high school bullies. And Flanagan promises that the iconic opening scene is intact for his version of the story. That means the uncomfortable scene where the group of girls torments Carrie for panicking when she has her first menstrual period in the shower room is still there.

Flanagan also elected to focus on something from the book that was not presented in the movie: the witness testimonies, frantic emergency phone calls and law enforcement investigations after that infamous prom scene.

And yes, that prom scene remains, but Flanagan states that “we’re getting there a completely different way, and the events of that prom are going to be completely different.” Note: This would concern me if the series were in the hands of a lesser creator. But Flanagan has proved over and over again that he can make big changes without affecting the integrity of his source material.

No release date for the Carrie series on Prime Video has been announced as of yet; all we know is that it is planned to release in fall of this year. The Horror Lounge will keep you up-to-date as we receive new info and press releases.
