Here's what a Crystal Lake Season 2 could explore and what showrunner Brad Caleb has already teased

Crystal Lake has finally been released, and all eight episodes are now streaming on Peacock. It's been a long wait for Friday the 13th fans. The franchise has been dormant due to lawsuits and complicated film rights that were split between Paramount and Warner, which have now merged under Skydance.
While it's unclear if Crystal Lake will be renewed for a second season, it does seem quite likely, due to the show's generally positive reception (read our review of the first season), and the overall popularity of the slasher franchise. Ultimately, it'll likely depend on streaming numbers, but it's tough to remember any show on Peacock that earned as much buzz and anticipation as Crystal Lake.
If there is a Crystal Lake Season 2, here's what we'd like to see and what showrunner Brad Caleb has already teased.
There are major spoilers ahead regarding the first season of Crystal Lake.
Crystal Lake Season 2 should deliver more of Pamela Voorhees' backstory, including her years as a singer
By far, the best aspect of Crystal Lake, other than the gnarly kills, is the casting of Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees. She absolutely gives a stellar performance as Jason's mom. If there is a second season, the writers should spend a little more time exploring her ambitions pre-motherhood. They do this a little bit in the first season, especially in Episode 7, but not nearly enough. Viewers get glimpses of her life as a singer, but only a few minutes here and there.
In Episode 7, Pamela befriends another mother-to-be, Trish (Olivia Macklin). They're both part of a medical experiment that's essentially turning their children into super humans that can survive nuclear war, only they don't fully know it yet. During their first meeting, Pamela and Trish bond and befriend each other over cake, and Pamela tells Trish that her parents are long gone and wouldn't have approved of her ambition to be a night club singer in New York City. Crystal Lake Season 2 should delve into Pamela's backstory more, including her club gigs in the Big Apple, but also that potentially strained relationship with her parents. There's some really fertile ground and character development there worth exploring. Show the Pamela years pre-Jason, at least for an episode or two.
Crystal Lake Season 2 should give us even more Jason
If Crystal Lake has one flaw, it's Jason's backstory and how he's a medical experiment created by Bellflower Chemical. He's injected with roach DNA and becomes stronger through pain and trauma. Oh, and his old man, Elias (Hamish Linklater), good company man that he is, sacrifices him to said experiments and believes it's beneficial to humankind. This is the reason Jason can't die and also why he ages faster on the show.
During the Season 1 finale, we encounter Sackhead Jason, who features prominently in Friday the 13th Pt. 2. It's a younger version, but he racks up some major kills, including Elias. Mostly likely Season 2 would feature that version of Jason more prominently and show him living in that shack in the woods, picking off victims one by one, claiming Crystal Lake and its woods as his own. Additionally, it'd be cool to see Jason and Pamela work together on some of the kills. They'd make quite the tag-team.
Here's what showrunner Brad Caleb has teased so for if there is a Crystal Lake Season 2
Over the last week, showrunner Brad Caleb has given several interviews and previewed what he has in mind for a Crystal Lake Season 2. In an interview with Deadline, he stressed that he wants to continue focusing on the residents of Crystal Lake, and that's part of the reason the first season was intriguing. Jason and Pamela were the focus, for sure, but there was time given to characters like Ralph (Nick Cordileone), waitress Trudy (Bernadette Quigley), and Crystal Lake Police Chief Levon Brooks (Will Catlett), a major character in Season 1.
In that Deadline interview, Caleb said he'd love to create a "Twin Peaks-y vibe" for Season 2 and explore these characters and the town more, adding, "And, you know, with a show like this, we have the opportunity to open it up and spend a little more time with them. Everybody loves a small-town show, and within the world of Friday the 13th, that just becomes more amplified and interesting." A Twin Peaks-y vibe? Color us intrigued!
In another interview with /Film, Caleb teased the potential integration of a major character's family, specifically Tommy Jarvis. He was played by three different actors over the years, including Corey Feldman in Friday the 13th Pt. 4: The Final Chapter, John Shepherd in Friday the 13th Pt. V: A New Beginning, and Thom Mathews in Friday the 13th Pt. 6: Jason Lives. In the interview, Caleb pointed out that the Jarvis family has likely been coming to Crystal Lake for years and entertained the idea of incorporating the family's storyline into the show. Let's hope so!
So far, there's been no announcement made about a Crystal Lake Season 2, but we'll share the news here if and when it happens. Until then, enjoy the first season on Peacock, and let us know in the comments what you thought of Crystal Lake and what you'd like to see in a secon season.
