As fans of Shudder series The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs know, this Friday, March 6 is the season seven finale. It’s been the longest season of the series’ history, beginning on March 7 of 2025, but the format changed. Instead of one double feature each week, we got one each month, but for a longer period of time.
The featured movies this season have been, as usual, varied and often unexpected. We have had films from the 1920s, the 1950s, and everything in between and beyond. 2024’s ambient slasher In a Violent Nature was shown, and the sequel will be releasing sometime in the near future.
Here are the movies that have been featured during The Last Drive-In’s seventh season:
Phantom of the Opera (1925)
Opera
Intruder
In a Violent Nature
The City of the Dead
Ringu
Earth vs the Spider
Dark Match
Dog Soldiers
Bad Moon
Piranha
Crocodile
This Night I’ll Possess Your Corpse
The Church
Mute Witness
The Final Terror
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage
Blood and Black Lace
Don’t Torture a Duckling
Don’t Go in the Woods
House on Haunted Hill
The Innkeepers
Although no announcement has been made yet regarding an eighth season, Joe Bob threw fans in a tizzy when he posted a short video on Twitter/X March 3. His statement was brief, reading: “Attention, Mutant Family! If you’ve been watching The Last Drive-In for the past eight years, then you already get what we do, but I’m telling you, you must watch the season finale this Friday. I love you guys.” And to be honest, he seems a little emotional when speaking.
Immediately, the “Mutant Family” (which is what JB fans refer to themselves as) scrambled to decipher what his announcement meant, with many people believing he will be announcing the cancellation of The Last Drive-In.
Of course, some claim that they will cancel their Shudder subscription if this happens, but there is also the possibility that Joe Bob himself may have decided to call it quits on the series, which would absolutely be his right.
As a fan myself, I don’t think so. And I definitely don’t think Shudder would cancel The Last Drive-In, due to its immense popularity. My hope is that he will announce an eighth season, while also showing a couple of great, iconic drive-in movies.
And for the record, if The Last Drive-In will be no more, I will still continue to subscribe to Shudder. One of the reasons I initially subscribed was to watch Joe Bob’s iconic 24-hour long marathon, which is what started The Last Drive-In ball rolling in the first place, but I think many Shudder originals have been outstanding. Plus, like most lifelong horror fans, I enjoy watching their “resurrected” titles, many of which I saw long ago, or somehow missed originally.
What about you? Will you keep your Shudder subscription if The Last Drive-In does not return? Leave us a comment and tell us how you feel about it.
