Shudder is starting off the new year with even more originals and exclusives, as well as some great additions to their library.
January 1:
Marshmallow (Shuder Exclusive) – Morgan is a shy 12-year-old boy sent to stay at summer camp, where he makes new friends. After a staff member tells a scary tale around the campfire, Morgan sneaks out and discovers the story might actually be true, and that he and his friends are in danger.
Shark Night – A group of seven college students take a weekend trip to the Louisiana Gulf, and find themselves terrorized by sharks.
Carrie (1976) – In the film based on Stephen King’s first novel, Carrie White is a shy and bullied teen who discovers she has a strange and dangerous power: telekinesis. When she is the victim of a cruel prank during prom, Carrie lets loose.
28 Days Later – When a “rage virus” turns people into vicious, angry zombies in the UK, a few survivors band up to keep themselves alive.
28 Weeks Later – In this sequel, set six months after the original film, the US Army steps in to help Londoners regroup and start again. Too bad their carefully formulated plans don’t work as they expected.
From Beyond – Stuart Gordon based this film on the story by H.P. Lovecraft. When scientists create a machine called the Resonator, it delivers unexpected and deadly results.
The Other – “Unable to conceive, a couple seeks to build a family with a young orphan, survivor of a tragic childhood. But their act of love turns to horror when they realize the violence in their foster’s past has returned to destroy the new family.”
Bone Tomahawk – In this slow-burn Western/horror mashup, Sheriff Hunt (Kurt Russell), Arthur (Patrick Wilson), John (Matthew Fox) and Deputy Chicory (Richard Jenkins) set out to find a group of especially savage troglodytes who have kidnapped Arthur’s wife. Ya’ll…this movie has the most shocking, jaw dropping scene of any I have watched onscreen.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 – Radio host Vanita “Stretch” Brock (Caroline Williams) is kidnapped by Leatherface and his dysfunctional family, while Sally and Franklin’s Uncle (Dennis Hopper) tries to find the cannibals to seek revenge.
January 9:
Chain Reactions (Shudder Exclusive) – Fifty years after Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was released, this doc examines the effect the ground-breaking horror film had on five artists: Patton Oswalt, Takashi Miike, Alexandra Heller-Nicholas, Karen Kusama, and Stephen King.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre – When this gritty horror film was released in 1974, some theatres abruptly stopped showing it due to complaints of excessive violence. Though it features very little blood and gore, it is widely regarded as one of the most iconic horror films.
Don’t Torture a Duckling – A series of child murders in Italy stump authorities as they and two “urban outcasts” try to find out who is responsible.
Don’t Go Into the Woods – When four friends take a camping trip in the woods, not knowing that various people are being killed all around them by a violent murderer.
January 10:
In the Mouth of Madness – “An insurance investigator begins discovering that the impact a horror writer’s books have had on his fans is more than inspirational.”
January 12:
Founders Day – In the midst of a small town political campaign, a masked killer is on the loose.
The Severed Sun – In this British film, the members of a church community begin to turn on each other after one of them is murdered.
January 16:
Beast of War (Shudder Exclusive) – A troop of Australian soldiers in World War II are trapped on their life raft while being hunted by a great white shark.
January 23:
Mother of Flies (Shudder Original) – The Adams Family (Hellbender) bring us this folk horror film, in which Mickey has received bad news about her health. She and her father set off into the woods hoping the black magic used by Solveig might be able to help her. But a potential cure comes with a terrible price. But a cure
