Kids are heading back to school. Pumpkin-flavored everything has descended upon us, and stores are loading shelves with Halloween decorations. Yes, it's creeping closer and closer to spooky season proper.
The free streamer Tubi is gearing up for the season with several horror movies and series. Collectively, Tubi's September schedule is a great way to kick off the season just right. This also follows Tubi's recent announcement that the Terror on Tubi Hub will now be available year-round, with curated horror selections.
Besides the Terror on Tubi Hub, here are some horror highlights for September.
Tubi's September schedule features Rob Zombie movies, including his Halloween remakes
Rob Zombie's polarizing Halloween movies are headed to Tubi. The first movie is somewhat of a remake of John Carpenter's 1978 classic. However, it gives Michael Myers a backstory that entails bullying and abuse. In this remake, Scout Taylor-Compton plays final girl Laurie Strode, and Danielle Harris, best known as Jamie from Halloween 4 and Halloween 5, stars alongside Taylor-Compton as Laurie's best friend, Annie. Meanwhile, Tyler Mane offers a rather imposing Myers, and Sheri Moon Zombie, the director's wife, is Michael's mother.
While the first movie really doesn't do anything different than Carpenter's classic, other than demystify Myers by giving him a backstory, the second film is much more interesting. It explores Laurie's trauma because of what she survived in the first movie, and Taylor-Compton gives a hell of a performance. While some people may shrug off both movies, the second one deserves a revisit, even if there are some seriously weird mommy issues in it.
Rob Zombie fans will also be happy to know that the last film in his Firefly trilogy, 3 From Hell, will be available. Why not make it a Rob Zombie marathon?
Tubi's September schedule also includes more slashers, A24 horror, and gnarly creature features
Besides the Halloween remakes already mentioned, there are more slashers heading to Tubi in September, including director Adam Wingard's stellar and tense You're Next and the cheesy but fun Sorority Row. However, if slashers aren't your thing, well, Tubi is also adding one of the best creature features of the last 15 years, The Descent. Directed by Neil Marshall, the film follows a group of six women on a spelunking expedition. They get trapped underground and encounter horrifying humanoid monsters. The movie delivers edge-of-your seat suspense and scares. The sequel will also be available.
Additionally, the streamer is adding several A24 movies in September, including The Witch, Lamb, and The Blackcoat's Daughter. So, if elevated horror is your jam, then you're really in luck next month.
