Expedition Files is returning in April for its fourth season

Discovery Channel has announced that its series Expedition Files will be returning for a fourth season in April. The series is hosted by explorer and investigator Josh Gates, who investigates “the world’s most notorious mysteries.”

Josh Gates is known for his many shows on Discovery, such as Expedition Unknown and Legendary Locations, but also hosted live specials for Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International (as well as appeared as a guest investigator on those shows). In Expedition Files, Gates takes a look at mysteries and unexplained events, but he works at analyzing the evidence in a studio setting, without going on-site and exploring in person.

Here’s what the press release says about the new season of Expedition Files: “From long-whispered conspiracies to chilling revelations, the new season takes viewers on a pulse-pounding journey through time as Gates reexamines legends we thought we knew.” Many of the episodes involve stories we have been told throughout history, with Gates determining whether or not parts of the stories are myth, rather than historical fact.

Topics explored during season four will include:

·         Whatever became of the American Navy submarine USS Scorpion? The sub imploded and disappeared in May of 1968, along with its nuclear reactor.

·         Gates does a deep dive into the final days of the infamous Donner Party, a group of pioneers who were trapped by blizzards in the Sierra Nevada. Starving and ill, many members of the group resorted to cannibalism.

·         Archeologists in Turkey discovered a strange, 538 foot boat-shaped mound, which many believe to be proof of Noah’s Ark. Could the mound be the fossilized remains of the Biblical Ark?

·         Explore “new archaeological evidence that sheds light on ancient Rome’s legendary rebel Spartacus.”

·         Gates will also look at the legendary tale of Paul Revere’s midnight ride to discover what is myth and what is actual truth, and explore a theory revolving around President Lincoln’s assassin John Wilkes Booth…one that includes the idea that Booth’s death may have not occurred the way it is depicted in history books.

When will the fourth season of Expedition Files debut?

The new season will premiere on Wednesday, April 1 at 9:00 p.m. ET on Discovery Channel. Episodes can also be streamed on Discovery+.
