The truth is out there: Hulu has officially picked up Ryan Coogler's X-Files as a series

Good news, X-Files fans. Hulu announced today that Ryan Coogler's X-Files has officially been picked up as a series.
Though it's unclear if Gillian Anderson will return as Dana Scully and David Duchovny as Fox Mulder, it's already been confirmed that the series will instead focus on new agents assigned to The X-Files to investigate cases of the paranormal. More specifically, the series will star Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel as the new agents and based on the description and press releases thus far, it sounds like they'll have somewhat of a Mulder and Scully dynamic as a believer and skeptic who bond and come together after they're assigned to the long-shuttered division.
In a press release regarding the new series, Coogler stated, "“I’ve loved ‘The X-Files’ for a long time, so getting the chance to write and direct the pilot has meant a great deal to me." He added, “What Chris Carter created is special, and we wanted to honor everything that made the original series connect with so many people while also finding our own way into that world. Danielle and Himesh, along with the rest of our cast, have brought such original perspectives and performances to these characters, and watching that come together has been one of the most rewarding parts of the experience. I couldn’t have asked for better collaborators than my crew, colleagues at Proximity Media and our partners at Onyx Collective and 20th Television. I’m grateful for the trust and support they’ve given us as we take on this new chapter.”
Coogler wrote, directed, and executive produced the pilot and will serve as an executive producer alongside showrunner and executive producer Jennifer Yale. Other executive producers include Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, both for Proximity Media and Chris Crater, who initially created the show. Co-executive producers include Simone Harris (Proximity Media), Deadwyler, and Patel.
The X-Files ran for eleven seasons so far, with a total of 218 episodes. Additionally, the series led to two movies. Meanwhile, Coogler has said in interviews that the new series will include a mix of monster-of-the week episodes and mythology episodes about alien colonization. Further, besides Patel and Deadwyler, Steve Buscmei and Amy Madigan have also been cast, though it's unclear who they'll play or how large their roles will be.
“We’re looking forward to continuing this journey as executive producers and especially excited to work closely with Jennifer Yale, Simone Harris, and the entire cast and crew as we bring this new chapter of ‘The X-Files’ to life. It was also incredibly special to have our fellow Proximity co-founder Ludwig Göransson contribute the score for the pilot, making this a true collaboration across the Proximity family,” said Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian and Ryan Coogler, founders of Proximity Media in a press statement.
There's no official release date yet for Ryan Coogler's X-Files series, but we'll share those details once we have them.
