Halloween Wars and Halloween Baking Championship are back on Food Network
Like so many other horror fans, I love horror movies of all sorts. But…I also adore the Halloween baking shows on Food Network (I also love Hallmark Christmas movies, but I digress). You know the shows I’m talking about: Halloween Wars, Halloween Baking Championship, Outrageous Pumpkins, Halloween Cookie Challenge, and last Halloween’s new series Last Bite Hotel.
Well, it’s that time of year again, and sadly, the seasonal roster on Food Network is considerably smaller this year. The network quietly dropped the latter three series, leaving only Halloween Wars (the best of the bunch) and Halloween Baking Championship. When I say “quietly”, I mean it; Food Network has not given any reason for the cancellations, and I am guessing a lot of viewers are as sad about it as I am.
But, the good news is that Halloween Wars and Halloween Baking Championship are now running new episodes, so let’s concentrate on what the new season is bringing us.
Halloween Wars resumed on September 13, and new episodes air each Sunday at 9:00 p.m. ET. Thankfully, Jonathan Bennett is back to host – anyone remember the disastrous two seasons hosted by Zak Bagans of Ghost Adventures? Yikes, that was a misfire for sure.
Shinmin Li and Andrew Fuller are on hand to judge this season, and the season theme is “Back from the Dead.” The teams are all made up of returning all-star sugar artists, pumpkin carvers, and cake artists, so there are definitely a lot of familiar faces on set. Some of the team members are returning champs, and others are hoping for redemption because they didn’t last long on their prior seasons. Oh, and Tator is back! His gorilla pumpkin carving is jaw-droppingly good (it's the featured image for this article)..
At the end of Halloween Wars, the winning team will split $30,000.
Episodes of Halloween Wars and Halloween Baking Championship will stream the next day on HBO Max, and will also be available on Discovery+.
Halloween Baking Championship aired its season premiere on Monday, September 14, with new episodes airing each Monday at 9:00 p.m. ET.
John Henson is back to host, and the setting this season is the Museum of Unnatural History. The creepy exhibits (Possessed Pests, Demon Masks, Vault of Bones, etc.) provide inspiration for the upcoming challenges. Ten bakers are competing for the ultimate $25,000 prize.
Carla Hall is sadly absent from the roster of judges, but returning judges Stephanie Boswell and Zac Young are joined by Food Network’s well-known Aarti Sequeira. Each episode’s winner in the first round will get $1,000, and the top three get to sit back and relax while the remaining competitors have to compete in a “bake for your life” challenge. The baker who scores lowest with he judges will have to leave the challenge.
