If you’re like me, you just don’t get to the theatre often enough to see all of the great horror movies when they first release. Thankfully, films tend to hit streaming platforms pretty quickly after their theatrical premieres, and April is looking pretty good!
Here are the horror movies I am looking most forward to streaming in April (and the ones I most ashamed to have missed in theatres).
Dolly – This is the one movie on this list that I actually have seen, though it was a screener and not something I caught in a theatre. I absolutely loved this bonkers, insanely bloody backwoods horror flick! Macy and Chase are off for a romantic little hike in the woods, and the mood is ruined when they happen upon a weird display featuring dolls hanging in the trees and strewn all about.
When Dolly (Max the Impaler) shows up, Chase is horribly wounded and Macy is taken by the huge, imposing figure wearing a childish red dress and a creepy porcelain mask that looks like a doll’s face. From there, things get WTF crazy, as Macy tries to escape Dolly’s house.
Dolly will be streaming on Shudder April 24
Dust Bunny – First, let’s talk about this cast: Mads Mikkelsen, Sigourney Weaver, David Dastmalchian…and it’s written and directed by Bryan Fuller (Hannibal), so there is no way this will be a lackluster film.
8-year-old Aurora contacts a man who lives in her building to request his help. She believes the monster that lives under her bed has killed her parents, and she wants to hire “5B” to kill the monster in return. Though it's marketed as a "family horror" movie, it's still
Dust Bunny will be streaming on HBO Max April 17

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 – Two years after the events in the first film, Abby is missing her ghost buddies, who had inhabited the animatronics at Freddy Fazbear’s. She begs her brother Mike to repair the broken figures, but he is understandably reluctant.
Things kick into gear when a group of paranormal investigators show up at the original Fazbear’s to conduct a ghost hunt.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will be streaming on Peacock April 13
Him – Jordan Peele produced this one, which is about Cam, an up and coming football player who has the potential to be a star on the field. After he is attacked while practicing alone late at night, Cam suffers a dangerous head injury.
Spurred on by his agent, Cam agrees to train at a mysterious (and ultimately dangerous compound run by an older quarterback (Marlon Wayans). Bad decisions lead to bad consequences.
Him will be streaming on Netflix on April 14

Shelby Oaks – This found footage horror film was a hit at the Fantasia Film Festival in 2024, and the buzz really started when Mike Flanagan became its executive producer. Riley Brennan is one of the members of a group of YouTuber paranormal investigators known as the Paranormal Paranoids. When she and the group go missing while investigating a ghost town known as Shelby Oaks, she is the only member whose body is not later found.
Twelve years later, a strange man shows up at the door of Riley’s sister Mia with a mini DV tape that contains footage of the ill-fated paranormal investigation. Mia is determined to do whatever it takes to find her sister, who she believes is still alive.
Shelby Oaks will be streaming on Hulu April 17
The Conjuring: Last Rites – In the ninth film in The Conjuring series, we visit Ed and Lorraine Warren in 1964, as they investigate an old mirror said to be haunted. During the inspection, Lorraine collapses and goes into labor, ultimately delivering their daughter Judy.
Years later, the Smurl family haunting begins, and Ed, Lorraine, and Judy get involved, despite Ed’s worsening health issues. That cursed mirror is in the Smurl house, and the Warrens are determined to get it out of there and hold it safely in their own collection.
The Conjuring: Last Rites will be streaming on Prime Video April 21
