Joe Bob's Savage Summer is coming to Shudder next week

Shudder has already released details of their July schedule, but something is confusing fans of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs. Looking at the way many outlets have been writing up the information, many people are thinking there are three TLDI specials coming out this month.

Specifically, the info is regarding The Faces of Death Double Feature, The Last Drive-In: Joe Bob’s Savage Summer, and Twisted Christmas in July.

In reality, The Last Drive-In: Joe Bob’s Savage Summer is indeed a special (and it looks like it will also be presented as a watch party) – but the other two are watch parties, and not related to Joe Bob. Here’s the breakdown:

On July 10, Joe Bob’s Savage Summer special will air. Shudder’s description is as follows: “The legendary horror host is turning up the heat for Joe Bob’s Savage Summer! Together with Darcy the Mail Girl and a few special guests, Joe Bob hosts a summer screening of two titans of transgressive cinema, including an infamous “Video Nasty” that he’s never been allowed to host – until now.” My guess is that the "Video Nasty" will be I Spit on Your Grave, which comes to Shudder this month.

Faces of Death Double Feature comes to us on July 17. I am guessing it will include the original Faces of Death and the recent reboot film. This would make the most sense, especially with the original currently available on Shudder, and the reboot coming on July 10.

On July 31, the Twisted Christmas in July Watch Party airs. The double feature includes Christmas Bloody Christmas and my own personal favorite holiday horror film, Black Christmas (hopefully the original, and not the horrible 2019 remake).

The Watch Parties and the Joe Bob special will air at 9:00 pm on Shudder

Joe Bob Briggs’s run on Shudder began in 2018 with his 24-hour marathon of “drive-in” movies, such as Sleepaway Camp, Tourist Trap, Basket Case, and Pieces. The marathon was a huge hit, and it was the first time we got to meet Darcy the Mail Girl.

After that, Shudder wisely gave Joe Bob his own series, and thus began The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs. The show ran for seven seasons, and on the season seven finale, it was announced that there would sadly not be an eighth. It was a surprising move on the part of Shudder, and it will be interesting to see what happens after the Christmas special, which will end The Last Drive-In.

Fans are speculating where Joe Bob, Darcy, and their motley crew may go after their Shudder contract ends, but nothing has been officially announced as of yet.
