Lionsgate is planning a new Leprechaun movie, with Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan set to write

Lionsgate is planning a new Leprechaun movie, Deadline confirmed. The script will be penned by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. The duo has worked on several horror movies together, including Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI and 3D, as well as Feast, The Collector, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, among others.
So far, the plot is unknown, but this will be Lionsgate's second attempt to revitalize the franchise. In 2024, Felipe Vargas was attached to direct a new movie from a script by Mike van Waes, but that fell through. Oren Koules and Miles Koules are set to produce the new entry, and previously, Oren Koules produced all ten films in the Saw series for Lionsgate, which earned over a billion dollars at the box office for the company.
Speaking to Deadline, Oreon Koules said, "After producing all the Saw films, and twenty-three wonderful years at Lionsgate, I'm thrilled to be working again with the Lionsgate team, Patrick and Marcus, and my son, Miles, on a terrifying new way into the rich world of Leprechaun."
Meanwhile, Dan Heffner and Ketura Kestin will serve as executive producers for the new movie. In total, the franchise spans eight films. The first was released in 1993 and stars Warwick Davis as the murderous, wise-cracking little fella who slaughters anyone who touches his pot of gold. He continued playing the role for six films. The initial entry also stars Jennifer Aniston in one of her earliest film roles as Tory Reding. Over the years, the sequels grew more ridiculous, with films like Leprechaun 4: In Space and 2000's Leprechaun in the Hood.
Lionsgate took over the Leprechaun franchise when it bought Trimark Pictures in 2000. One of the franchise's most recent sequels, Leprechaun: Origins, was directed by Zach Lipovsky, of Final Destination: Bloodlines fame. Though the slasher series has largely been dormant for nearly a decade, the films are still part of a St. Patrick Day's marathon that the Syfy network runs yearly.
Besides Davis and Aniston, the series has also featured some other notable stars over the years. Hip-hop icon Ice-T appeared in Leprechaun in the Hood, playing a record producer named Mack Daddy. Coolio also appeared in the same movie and performed as himself, while Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, of TLC, featured briefly in Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood in 2003. Since the reboot is only in its very early stages of production, there's no word yet on who will star in the film, or who will play the villainous title character.
