Faces of Death - Courtesy Shudder

Shudder has rolled out their schedule for July, and it includes trips to the Maryland woods and to the “Poohniverse.” There are also some originals, exclusives, and plenty of classics included, plus the new Faces of Death joins the horror streamer.

July 1:

Daydreamers – In Saigon, vampires are nearly extinct, with only a few remaining. Those who are still around have vowed not to kill, but one young man is determined to test his boundaries.

Amer – “As a young girl Ana was a rebellious child. She was also tormented by images of death and a shadowy, ominous figure in black. Now an adult, she is once again tormented by shadowy other-worldly forms.”

Ghost ShipThis film features what is hands-down the very best opening scene in any horror movie ever. A salvage crew is led to the Antonia Graza, a long-lost ocean liner drifting in the Bering Sea. When the crew boards the ship, they begin to experience ghostly visions and deadly events.

A Grand Mockery – Josie lives a fairly boring and mundane life until his mental struggles lead him to explore the rainforest of Queensland. This film was shot on Super 8 film, and won Best Feature Film at SXSW Sydney.

The Cabin in the Woods – Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s brilliant comedy horror takes on multiple horror tropes as employees of a secret underground facility play games with five vacationing college students.

Oscar Tango Hellwater – In this reimagining of Shakespeare’s Othello, A man named Ottoman Moore is forced to work with three people led by a preacher. While he doesn’t trust them, Moore has lost his best employee to a bear attack.

The Scarecrow – Three teens are just hanging out in a cornfield, and decide to share some scary stories. Mitch shares the tale of Lester Dwervick, a bullied young man who is killed by his mother’s boyfriend, and left near a scarecrow. Soon, some mysterious deaths occur.

The Covenant – “The death of a student at an elite academy in New England threatens the centuries-old secret of four families.”

The Craft – When Sarah and her parents move from San Francisco to LA, Sarah makes friends with a trio of teens at her new high school. She soon discovers that the three girls – all of whom are struggling with bullying – have formed a coven, and practice witchcraft.

The Evil Dead – In this iconic 1981 film, Ash (Bruce Campbell) and some friends decide to spend a few nights at an isolated cabin in the woods. When they discover a strange book in the basement, they end up summoning a demon and things get very gory.

Dream Eater – This is a fairly recent Canadian found footage film that documents a filmmaker’s investigation of her boyfriend’s violent parasomnia.

July 3:

Touch Me (Shudder Exclusive) – “Two codependent best friends become addicted to the heroin-like touch of an alien narcissist who may or may not be trying to take over the world.”

Prepare to have your childhood ruined with these Shudder additions

July 6:

Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey – The first film in what is now known as “The Poohniverse” twists the story of Winnie the Pooh. When Christopher Robin leaves his animal friends behind to attend college, they go on a murderous rampage.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 – In the sequel, Pooh, Owl, Piglet, and Tigger visit Ashdown, causing bloody havoc.

Bambi: The Reckoning – A mother and son are tormented by Bambi, a deer who has become a mutated monster.

Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare – “Wendy darling strikes out in an attempt to rescue her brother Michael from the clutches of the evil Peter Pan. Along the way, she meets Tinkerbell, who is seen taking heroin believing that it’s pixie dust.”

I Heart Willie – This skewering of the Mickey Mouse story obviously is a result of the filmmaker jumping on the Poohniverse band wagon.

 July 8:

I Spit on Your Grave – After Jennifer Hills is attacked and sexually assaulted by three men, she goes after them with a vengeance. This is considered to be one of the most controversial films of the “video nasty” age.

July 10:

Faces of Death (Shudder Original) – A woman working as a video moderator finds a film that seems to re-enact murders from the original Faces of Death.

Joe Bob’s Savage Summer Special – Joe Bob Briggs is back with his co-host Darcy the Mail Girl and some special guests for this special. Join the gang as they present a double feature said to include an infamous Video Nasty (might it be I Spit on Your Grave?).

July 13:

Sleepaway Camp – This cult favorites features Felissa Rose as Angela, who lives with her Aunt and cousin after her father’s death. Angela and cousin Ricky go to Camp Arawak for the summer, and strange deaths begin to occur.

The Outwaters – “Four travelers encounter menacing phenomena while camping in a remote stretch of the Mojave Desert.

Dead Snow – Both gory and funny, Dead Snow is about a group of students in Norway who stay in a cabin in Norway. It’s all fun and games until nazi zombies show up.

July 17:

Exit 8 (Shudder Exclusive) – Our contributor Brian summed up Exit 8 as follows: “Like the video game, the film establishes its easy-to-follow rules early on, while its unnamed protagonist, played by Kazunari Ninomiya, is stuck in purgatory and must solve a puzzle to escape an endless loop in subway tunnels.”

July 20:

Cold Road – In this Canadian thriller, an indigenous woman named Tracy is on a road trip with her dog when she is followed by a strange man in a semi truck.

Baby in the Basket – A baby is left in a basket at a convent in Scotland, and the nuns take the child in. But soon, some scary things start to happen.

Nina Wu – “Nina Wu lives a solitary life and dreams of becoming an actress. One day, she lands a role in a 70s spy movie and devotes herself entirely to the character, but she is haunted by threats and unfortunate events.”

A Good Woman is Hard to Find – Sarah’s husband was recently murdered, and her young son, who witnessed the stabbing, has not spoken at all since the event. When a man breaks into her apartment and terrorizes her, she realizes he has ties to her husband’s murder.

Saccharine - Courtesy Shudder

July 24:

Saccharine (Shudder Original) – “Hana is a lovelorn medical student who becomes terrorized by a sinister force after taking part in an obscure weight-loss craze: eating human ashes.”

July 27:

Terminal Island – When the death penalty is abolished, California makes the decision to drop murderers off on an island, where they are left to live out their remaining years of life. The prisoners form two groups, with one being led by a crazed killer.

Cut Throats Nine – “After bandits attack a wagon transporting prisoners, a sergeant and his daughter must trek through harsh, snow-covered terrain to get seven sadistic convicts to their destination.”

Night Train to Terror – In this horror anthology, we join God and Satan on a train ride and they decide the ultimate fates of three different people.

July 31:

Nightborn (Original) – Saga and Jon move into her childhood home in the Finnish forest with their newborn baby, hoping for a perfect life. But Saga can tell there is something not right with her baby boy.
