May is going to be a big month for Shudder subscribers, mainly because we will finally get to watch Tales from the Crypt. But, there are plenty of other great films (and a series) coming up as well, and The Horror Lounge is happy to share the schedule with our readers.
May 1:
Tales from the Crypt – The iconic horror anthology that originated on HBO is FINALLY going to be back. It’s been out of circulation for a very long time, but Shudder is bringing it back in its entirety. Look for comic book inspired tales and stellar stars such as Brad Pitt, Catherine O’Hara, Brooke Shields, John Lithgow, and Demi Moore. *It probably goes without saying, but I recommend this one!
Heresy – In this folk horror film, a woman living in a medieval Dutch village is “caught between her faith, fanatic townsfolk and the dark forces lurking in the woods.
Gazer – Frankie is a young mother struggling with a condition that leaves her unable to perceive time. Desperate for a job, she accepts an offer from a strange woman, and everything goes very, very wrong.
Vice Squad – Princess is a sex worker enlisted by the LAPD to help them track down the psychopathic pimp named Ramrod who killed her friend Ginger. But Ramrod will do whatever it takes to evade capture.
Baby Blood – Also known as The Evil Within, this 1990 French horror movie is about a former circus performer who is suddenly compelled to murder people and drink their blood after her uterus is invaded by a strange creature.

Teeth – Described as a horror comedy, teeth is about a teenage girl who discovers her vagina has teeth after an attempted sexual assault.
Martyrs – One of the most respected French Extremity films, Martyrs is about a young woman who was exposed to severe trauma after being abducted and tortured as a child. She convinces her friend to help her find the perpetrators. *I highly recommend this film if you can handle the torture and murder scenes.
Livid – Julien Maury’s and Alexandre Bustillo’s follow-up to the French Extremity film Inside is about a group of friends who decide to rob the estate of a former ballet teacher who is in a coma. Things don’t go as planned.
Goodnight Mommy – This genuinely creepy film introduces us to twins Elias and Lukas, whose mother has just returned home after receiving facial surgery. She is acting differently than before, and her face is obscured with bandages, so the boys decide that she is not their mother. *This is another film I recommend.
Innocence – “A young woman discovers that her elite Manhattan preparatory school harbors a dark secret.”
The Ice Tower – It’s the 1970s, and actress Cristina has been cast as the title character in a film adaptation of The Snow Queen. When a runaway orphan decides to hide out in the studio where the film is being shot, she becomes obsessed with Cristina.
The Bridge From Hades – This 1968 Japanese film is about a man who falls in love the beautiful Otsuyu, a courtesan. He has no idea she is actually a ghost.
The Ghost of Yotsuya – “The ghost of a samurai’s wife takes revenge on her husband.”
The Snow Woman – A sculptor and his apprentice are searching for a tree with which to carve a statue. They find the perfect tree, but are soon hit by a powerful snowstorm, and seek refuge in an empty hut. But they are soon visited by an evil Snow Witch.

May 4:

May 8:
Whistle – A group of high schoolers discover what turns out to be an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. As they soon find, blowing the whistle causes their future deaths to visit sooner.
May 11:
47 Meters Down – Two sisters decide to make the most of their Mexican vacation, but instead they end up trapped in a shark cage with limited oxygen and a passel of great white sharks circling. *Recommended by me.
47 Meters Down: Uncaged – Stepsisters Mia and Sasha, along with some friends, go diving in the ruins of an underwater city. They soon encounter deadly sharks in the labyrinth of underwater caves.
Aberrance – “An estranged couple takes a retreat in the woods. Foreboding neighbors, frivolous friends, and dark unseen forces lead to a shocking conclusion.”
