From creature features to Resident Evil, here are 5 movies we can't wait to watch at Fantastic Fest 2026
Fantastic Fest, one of the best genre film festivals in the United States, is just days away. This festivities kick off on September 17 and conclude on September 24 at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar Cinema in Austin, Texas. A few of us at The Horror Lounge will be covering the event, and here are five movies that we can't wait to see from the stacked line-up.
Beware Boiuna
The trailer for Mike P. Nelson's creature feature, killer snake movie Beware Boiuna has already started playing in theaters, and the movie looks like a gruesome and wildly entertaining good time. The Lionsgate film stars Jessica Rothe, Logan Marshall-Green, Jackson Bews, and Kiana Madeira. The movie follows a group of doctors on in a mission trip in the Amazon rain forest, where they upset the habitat of a super large snake known as Boiuna. This movie has a lot going for it. Nelson proved with his Silent Night, Deadly Night remake from last year and his 2021 Wrong Turn remake that he's not afraid to get bloody, dirty, and gory. Meanwhile, Jessica Rothe is one of the most underrated scream queens around.

The Face of Horror
Writer/director Anna Biller's The Love Witch is one of my favorite movies of the last decade. It's stylish, smart, and sexy as hell. Biller's latest movie is The Face of Horror. It's described as a tribute to "classic Technicolor horror films," like 1950s Hammer movies, for example. Biller's movie follows a ghost from medieval England who returns and seeks revenge against her husband. With Biller, you know that you're in for one heck of a ride, especially with her keen eye for visuals, color, set designs, and costumes.
Into the Sky
I'm a sucker for movies about aliens, and Beware the Sky, written and directed by Evan Buxbaum and Drew Mylrea, looks all kinds of interesting. The film stars Sam Richardson, David Cross, Sofia Black-D'Elia, and Fiona Rene. It follows the character Bobby as he continually tries to reconnect with his ex-wife. The problem is that aliens keep abducting him. The premise sounds intriguing and even funny, and this is the type of indie movie that makes Fantastic Fest so special in the first place.
Resident Evil
Resident Evil is one of the most highly anticipated horror movies of the year, in part, because it's Zach Cregger's follow-up to last year's Oscar-winning Weapons. Though the movie isn't a direct adaptation of any of the Resident Evil games, it's set in the same world of Racoon City and follows a non-game character named Bryan, played by Austin Abrams. He's a medical courier who encounters the outbreak in its earliest days. The trailer was released several months ago and only helped to build hype for the movie. Resident Evil will premiere at Fantastic Fest, before it opens nationwide on September 18.

Victorian Psycho
Last but not least, we have the 19th Century period horror movie Victorian Psycho, starring horror mainstay Maika Monroe, who plays a governess named Winifred Notty. The film is based on Virginia Feito's novel of the same name. When staff members around the estate start to vanish, Winifred is to blame, especially since she hides a dark and violent past. At the very least, Monroe's performance makes this worth a watch. Following the movie's screening at Fantastic Fest, it will open in theaters on November 13.
