Shudder has announced they have acquired the rights to horror film Hallowarrior ahead of its world premiere at Tribeca (as part of Tribeca’s ESCAPE lineup). The film will debut at Tribeca on Wednesday, June 10 at The Village East by Angelika.
Hallowarrior is the feature debut from Ben Sottak, who both wrote and directed. The film stars Milly Shapiro (Hereditary) as Pumpkin, who is obsessed with Halloween, and happens to be the last girl left on earth after a lethal plague struck. As she searches the wasteland for food and supplies on Halloween Eve, “Pumpkin’s lonely holiday ritual is interrupted ty the arrival of a savage gang of raiders at her doorstep, led by the fearsome Thalia.” Will Pumpkin’s wit, weapons, and assorted candy be enough to help her fight off the dangerous gang?
Ben Sottak is a filmmaker who is based in New York City. While he has been responsible for shorts that have screened at film festivals such as Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, Telluride Horror Show, Fantasia, and FrightFest, Hallowarrior is his first feature-length work. Sottak claims to love “scary movies, gin martinis, and his two spooky cats.”
When will Hallowarrior begin streaming on Shudder?

Hallowarrior will make its Shudder debut sometime in the fall of this year. While no exact date has been announced, it would make sense to add it in October for the Halloween season. No word yet on whether or not it will be shown in theatres in advance of that, as happened with Good Boy, Clown in a Cornfield, Dolly, and other recent Shudder films.
In addition to Shapiro, Hallowarrior features Ajani Russel, AJ Bowen (You’re Next), and Shannyn Sossamon as Thalia.
IFC Entertainment Group Director of Acquisitions and Productions Adam Koehler says Shudder knew the film would be a great fit for the horror streaming platform from the moment they first saw it. For his part, creator Sottak said, “It’s an honor to have Hallowarrior join the Shudder family, and a treat to introduce their audience to this fun, scary, gory film along with its badass lead, Pumpkin, played by the incredible Milly Shapiro.”
Milly Shapiro made quite a splash with her role in Hereditary, appearing as the ill-fated Charlie. Her character was probably the most talked about, thanks to the shocking car incident scene she was featured in. But she is also an accomplished singer, and actually earned a Tony Honor in 2013 for her role in the Broadway musical version of Matilda.
